Developed skin induration from Kybella. Should I take Methylprednisolone or do a steroid injection in that area? (Photo)

Question

I did Kybella a little over a month ago. I developed a hard lump, which doctor say is skin induration. Went back to the doctor and she did 2 thermismooth treatments but I did not notice a difference. I did some research and I'm wondering is it better to take Methylprednisolone 1 month after or do a steroid injection directly in that hard lump? Any other suggestions? I'm really worried it will stay like this. I looked way better before and I need help! Please look at my before and after.

Thank you for the photos, Kybella is good for dissolving the submental fat under the chin area while contouring the jawline and making the chin more defined, but a combination approach is needed to get the most improvement with non-invasive options. I recommend a combination approach with thermage, ultherapy, exilis. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist to determine which medication or follow up treatment would be best for you in particular. I do a lot of Kybella in my office and from time to time a patient can develop a nodule.  These nodules can take additional time to resolve on their own but lasers will not help treat them or make them resolve more quickly.  If you are concerned I would consult an expert in Kybella for the best cosmetic results. based on your picture I think this is more indicative of what the results are based on how the treatment was performed rather than some strange unusual side effects.  I'm not a fan of kybella at all. It seems highly unpredictable and the recovery is way too intense compared to liposuction which gives predictable results.  I don't think oral steroids are going to do much at all. Injecting steroids in the lesion it may  decrease inflammation to some degree. There are complications with steroid injections as well such as fat atrophy.  When true fat atrophy happens it can be devastating.  No one from real self can give you an accurate assessment on this. Simply looking at pictures is not enough information. I would for sure want to examine the area, see if it's tender etc. before I weighed in I'm having a steroid injection. Either trust your provider and let him or her do whatever treatment they feel is appropriate or get a second in person consultation.  You may want to share with The real self community what's your experience with this product was so others can avoid making similar decisions.  The best option is to simply wait three months then consider the results final and have a formal reassessment.  Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
