Liposuction creates a surgical injury that is fixed by the body. The best thing is to stay out of the way and let time in the natural processes heal the area.

It is very common to have bruising and swelling for weeks to months after liposuction procedures. What is most important is that you follow your surgeons post operative instructions and continue compression. If you are concerned, lymphatic massage and Velashape or Venus Legacy treatments can be used to improve the swelling and help the skin tighten. My patients start treatments right away and it improves the long term results. Speak to your physician if you are concerned. Personally, I'm not a big fan of my patients having a lymphatic massage shortly after liposuction.If done too aggressively, it can increase the amount of inflammation, leading to prolonged healing and worsening scar tissue.If done after the initial healing process, then there is little to no risk involved, but I do not believe it makes a substantial difference in the outcome.I do not believe that injecting carbon dioxide will help your firm lump.Firmness after liposuction is typically temporary and dissipates by itself within the first three months after surgery.I suggest you follow up with your plastic surgeon or consider having a second opinion with a board-certified plastic surgeon to hear about your options.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
