Why are my butt implants sagging? Why does gluteus seem atrophied around it, causing small but frequent sciatic pain? (Photo)

2 yrs ago 09/2015 I had butt augmentation. I was noticing a gradual flattening of my gluteus even w legs exercises. Now, this past month I feel moderate sciatic pain. It seems that my muscles around the implant are atrophied. The implant is very apparent. They are still in place but seems to be losing "grip. " I'll seek to remove them with a certified plastic surgeon. Is it common to have this outcome from butt implants and what is the recovery like from removing them?

Dear Akilasena,   Thanks for posting your picture and sorry for your problem. From observing your pictures and reading your comments about muscle atrophy a Sciatic pain, most likely you have round implants placed, at least partially,  intra muscularly. It also  clear that you developed capsule contracture and the implants were placed too low and too close to the crease , where the skin is quite thin, making the implants palpable. I have been performing butt implants surgery for over 18 years and did the procedure on over 600 patients. I would recommend that instead of removing the implants, you should consider oval round, ultra soft silicone implants, placed under the Gluteal muscle  fascia. That will give you more natural looking butt, which was your goal initially, when you had the surgery.   As you can see from your own experience, not all results are the same, because there are different implants and different techniques. Also, experience, skills and aesthetic eye are critical for good outcome. So, do your due diligence carefully and choose your surgeon wisely.   Always, consult with experience board certified plastic surgeons who operate in accredited surgery center for your safety. Most importantly, check the before and after pictures in the photo gallery, to make sure that they are numerous, consistent and attractive.                               Best of luck,                                                    Dr Widder

Based upon your photos, the most likely reason for your current appearance is that the implants were placed on top of the muscle and not within the muscle.  An in person consult with physical exam is necessary to confirm this but if this is the case they can be removed and replaced to the intra-muscular plane for much better long-term results and to avoid sagging. You  may also benefit significantly by changing your round shaped implants for more anatomic shaped implant (eg Stanton Anatomic gluteal implants). Glad to be of help.

Thank you for your inquiry.  It seems that your implants have a severe capsule forming around them. This can be fixed by replacing the implants and clearing out all of that scar tissue. I would replace the implants in a new pocket to ensure they look natural and feel comfortable. Be sure to chose a Board Certified Plastic Surgery that specializes in Buttock augmentations and has extensive experience in performing these procedures.
