How many Botox treatments will I need to reduce enlarged glabella? (Photos)

Question

Attached are picutures of my side profile and the divet between my brows. I have had one treatment of 20 units of Botox a month ago in my glabella but have seen no difference in visual muscle mass despite not being able to frown anymore. I am female - I want a smoother profile and less of a depressed gap between my eyebrows where the muscles meet. Is this definitely achievable with Botox? If so; how many treatments might I need to see a difference?

It's difficult to tell from your pictures, but this may be bone. If it is due to muscles, a series of treatments with Botox is needed. I suggest following up with a cosmetic dermatologist. Hope this helps.

Botox is not used with the specific purpose of reducing muscle bulk; its function is to weaken (temporarily) the muscle function. Of course, it's possible that over time with consistent injections for maintenance, the muscle bulk may atrophy from disuse but that would likely take at least 4-6 injections over the course of over a year to see visible change in the bulk.

If this is caused by the strong muscles of your glabella area, then yes, botox (over time) will help these decrease in size. I would recommend an in person assessment with an experienced injector to discuss your options and for a more comprehensive assessment. Good luck!

Thank you for your photo. The bone of the glabella will not be affected by botox. If that thick area is due to muscle, then it can take up to 3-6 months to start noticing significant atrophy or thinning. If you have had strong muscles in that area your entire life, it would take a longer time for the muscle to start shrinking. Hope this helps!Johnson C. Lee, MD

Your protuberant glabella may not necessarily be caused by the muscles. It could be a bony protrusion that's making you look this way. You need to be valuated in person to determine the best treatment plan. Good luck for New York City
