I have developed excessive sweating of the scalp. The least amount of heat or exertion, like going for a walk and my head is drenched with sweat to the point that it is dripping down my back. This is really affecting my quality of life. Looking for a doctor in Charleston SC who might know how to treat this condition.

Answer: Excess Sweating of the Scalp This of localized excess sweating is called Craniofacial Hyperhidrosis. We have had good results using Botox injections for many of our affected patients with this type. You should seek out and experienced Dermatologist who is trained in this treatment technique. These results usually last 4-6 months in this location. I hope this is helpful.Steven Greene MD, Advanced Dermatology and Laser Institute of Seattle

Answer: Botox vs lotions. Craniofacial HH responds best to BOTOX injections. The amount needed is proportional to the area. Injections take 5 minutes to perform and last 3-5 months. Another option is glypyrollate lotion 2-5%- this can work well in 10-20% of patients. Speak to your dermatologist about other options including short course oxybutin, or p. bromide. Dr Davin Lim. Hyperhidrosis specialist, Brisbane. Australia.
