Botox Injections 12-13 Days Prior to Conception?

Hi @itsme4041! This was a great question. I recommend avoiding neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin) and dermal fillers prior to planned conception. Botox is also not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. I believe the risks out-way the benefits. Best of luck to you!

Hello, thank you for your question. It is recommended to stop Botox while trying to get pregnant, during pregnancy, and while breastfeeding. This is to avoid any potential risk, no matter how small. 

I tell patients there is likely no issues with doing these treatments in pregnancy. While there aren't studies about Botox and breastfeeding, botox will not travel. However, I would avoid cosmetic procedures while trying to get pregnant or while pregnant to avoid any issues as there are no studies validating safety. We always avoid Botox during pregnancy and breastfeeding. While the neurotoxin should not have an effect on the fertility procedure, it is always err on the side of caution with regards to medication during conception or pregnancy. Hope this helps and good luck!

We typically recommend that you do not undergo Botox treatment while you are pregnant or breastfeeding, so just to be safe you may want to avoid having the treatment prior to your fertility procedure. If you have any further questions or concerns don't hesitate to speak to your fertility doctor about this issue. 

When Botox is used on the forehead and brow, it normally will just stay in the area where it is injected.  However, in my opinion, it is better to be as safe as possible with a pregnancy, so I would recommend not having the Botox treatment 12-13 days before your fertility procedure.  

Botox may or may not be safe. It may or may not interfere with your IUI. No one has ever study its impact on IUI. The effects of Botox are systemic. How will you feel if you get a Botox service on February 1 have IUI on February 12 or 13 and it does not take? Is getting a few lines helped with a shot of Botox more important to you than getting pregnant? I strongly advise you not to have Botox. Sure it may be awhile before you can get Botox if you get pregnant. Ask yourself what is more important to you.

Thank you for your question. It is best to avoid any cosmetic injections before planned conception as well as during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Because there is no clear contraindication as far as an injection before conception, safe practice guidelines would be to avoid it all together.

Botox clearly says on the label not to use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, but if used before there is no clear contraindication. The dates you listed would be at least three weeks prior to implantation and several weeks longer prior to fetal development. In my opinion, Botox should be safe during your specific time frame.
