Am I applying too much Silagen if it leaves a filmy layer on my skin?

I got cleared to start scare treatment for my anchor scars from a breast lift & augmentation, I have been using Silagen two times a day, but have noticed that it leaves a filmy layer, even after showering, that doesn't come off unless I pick it off. I don't want to pick at anything near that area, so I am just leaving it for now. Does that mean that I am using too much of it, or is this part of the process? Thank you so much!

Hello,If you have 'just been cleared' to use scar gels, I assume you just recently had surgery. What you need right now is not silicone based gels, or any other topical scar products. Your incisions are fresh, and don't have scar to modify. Your goal now is mechanical support to prevent wide or thick scar formation, something that gels or creams don't provide. YOU NEED TAPE!!!!!! Go to Amazon and get a two pack of Hypafix 2 inch wide by 10 yards long. Apply weekly. Best of luck!

Dear girlnextshore,for scars, I close all of my incisions in 5 layers and do not use absorbable sutures because they cause inflammation and worse scarring. I tape all of my incisions in the office visits once a week for six weeks after surgery to improve the appearance. After taping, I start my patients on a scar gel therapy for 3 months that they have to put on their incisions twice daily.You should discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon as different surgeons have different approaches in scar management.Daniel Barrett, MD

I have recommended ScaRxTape for my patients for many years. It is definitely not messy like silicones with similar beneficial results and is much less costly and easy to use to support the wound after surgery or injury.
