Silagen, is this a good product for reducing scarring?

Hello cjrjpr,After much research into this topic, I have decided to give my patients a similar silicone gel product for scar management after surgery. There are many products out there with ingredients like vitamin E, onion skin extract, steroids, aloe and the like. While some have shown promise in the laboratory (Vitamin E helps break down collagen), others are known to help scarring but also thin the skin and weaken the incision (steroids). Only silicone sheeting (solid form of your product) has shown a roughly 20% reduction in scar appearance in independent studies (not sponsored by the manufacturer). In general, the best treatment is to limit shearing and tension, avoid direct sun exposure to a healing scar and keep the incision moist for the first few months. Silagen may help in addition to these staples.
