Considering the complication of a hematoma and seroma that you had, I think things look pretty normal. Any firmness and fullness as well as discoloration will eventually subside. Whenever there are issues of persistent hematoma/seroma, the healing is delayed. However, what you are experiencing should slowly dissipate over the next few months. For the lumpiness, kenalog (steroid) injections can accelerate the process. I would discuss this option with your surgeon. Good luck!

This type of healing is expected after a hematoma and serous. It seems as if you’re doctor is treating you appropriately. Continue to follow with your doctor and improvement just takes time.

Thank you for your question.  I'm sorry you had these complications after your facelift surgery.  However, it sounds like your surgeon was able to take care of these and appears that your healing on schedule.  At this point, I would continue to be patient as you heal.  The irregularities and bruising are not uncommon after a fluid collection under the skin.  While he will take some time this should was all on its own.  I would be sure to discuss your concerns with your surgeon, and sometimes massage of this area will help.I hope that this helps!–David Gilpin

It is so tough to be patient with recovery after facelift, particularly when complicated by a hematoma. It sounds as if your surgeon has done everything right, so you should continue to have confidence in his advice which will always be better than what you get over the internet. You can expect to have some lumps and discoloration and some contour irregularities as your tissue remodels. This can persist for up to a year, but in the picture it does not look unsightly. Take heart, it will all improve in time! Best of luck!!

Given that you had a hematoma and later had further evacuation, it is not surprising that you'd have some textural irregularities. In general, you look (from the limited photo) like the visible effects of the hematoma and treatment have been minimal. You need more time for the skin and soft tissue to go through some remodeling and there may be a role for laser treatments, conservative steroid injections, or other interventions over time but only if the area does not seem to smooth out to a reasonable degree on its own.

Thank you for your questions and photos.  It is not uncommon to have lumps and bumps for months after surgery.  If the surgery was complicated by seroma or hematoma this timeline for full recovery/results is going to take longer.  Continue to see you PS as instructed and give it some more time to improve.Best Wishes!

You are still early in the healing process after a facelift, especially when complicated with hematoma and seroma collections. The discoloration and areas of firmness should improve overtime as everything continues to heal.  Message and steroid injections are sometimes used to help with this but this should be discussed with your surgeon whether it would by helpful for you at this time. The discoloration is staining of the skin from your resolving bruises and will fade overtime as your body continues to clear the bruise.  The firmness will soften and the irregularities will significantly improve and often resolve. will prolong your recovery and it sounds like your surgeon is doing everything possible at this time.  Allow yourself to heal and if you find yourself with irregularities then, your surgeon should be able to provide some options from which you can choose.

Sorry to hear about your complications. It will take a number of months for things to settle. Massage helps and often deep lymphatic massage is useful and a lot of these irregularities do settle. Keep in touch with your PS
