Once your surgical wounds are fully closed (that doesn't mean fully healed and matured which takes about a year), you can apply any lotions or sprays. Because each surgeon has different personal preferences, you should check with your Plastic Surgeon first. However, in general once a surgical wound is closed (which usually takes two days), you can get the wound wet or apply creams, sprays. A wound is closed when it's no longer seeping fluid... doesn't look wet and shiny. Also, when most surgeons perform tummy tucks, they use drains. For as long as you have drains, you can consider the drain wounds as 'open' and should not get them wet, don't apply any lotions or sprays.
In my experience, typically by 6 weeks, all wounds have healed and it is reasonable to consider spray tanning. However, I would discuss this with your surgeon.
Applying any pigmentation to the skin should be delayed until the stitches are out and the wounds are sealed and healed. Any pigmentation, spray tanning included, applied before the wounds are healed can end up in the wound and be covered over resulting in inadvertent tattooing of the incision. To besure I would clear this with your surgeon before proceeding. Dr. Peter Aldea

Thank you for your question! For my patients having a tummy tuck procedure, I recommend they take 10 days off of work, 3 weeks off of cardio at the gym, and 6 weeks off of weight training and yoga exercises. Specifically, no lifting over 10 lbs for the first 6 weeks post surgery. Best of luck!
