Long nostrils are usually due to having a long nasal tip. Surgery can be done to improve this, of course, but the exact technique(s) used vary depending on your specific anatomy. Visit with a surgeon board certified to do rhinoplasty to find out what your options are. In the meantime you can check out the link below to see a recent blog post of mine that outlines the treatment of an overly long and narrow nose and nostrils.
Long nostrils can be modified depending on the overall size and shape of your nose. Many times changing the shape of the nostril will make them look shorter without actually removing any skin. It is best to seek out an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your concerns. Good luck.
The alarplasty procedure is merely done to narrow wide nostrils. It is not a procedure done to shorten long nostrils. To shorten long nostrils, the nose must be deprojected with derotation, which will cause flaring of the nostrils. The flared nostrils can be reduced through Weir’s alarplasty procedure.
Long or large nostrils in some cases can be reduced a bit, it really depends upon your anatomy and the exam.
Nostril shape can be modified as either part of a rhinoplasty or as a free standing procedure. These nostril modifications, however, are about narrowing the width of the nostril through skin excision at its base where it attached to the upepr lip. I suspect when you are referring to making the nostril shorter, you are referring to its length or height and not its width. Nostril height can only be made shorter if the tip of the nose cartilages is shortened to make the tip have less projection. Unlike nostril narrowing which can be done by itself, nostril height reduction must be part of at least a tip rhinoplasty done in the overprojecting or long nasal tip.
The shape of the tip of the nose can be modified with a variety of surgical technique. What is done would depend on your anatomy and how much the breathing would be affected by the prccedure. See a board-certified Plastic surgeon to learn what would be a reasonable goal for you.
Long nostrils can be shortened, but how this is done will vary tremendously depending on the presenting tip anatomy. Pictures and/or an examination of your nose are necessary to make specific recommendations.
Almost any part of the nose can be adjusted with rhinoplasty but the ultimate goal needs to be balance. Without seeing pictures it is hard to advise you but your best bet is to use a board certified plastic surgeon who has enough experience that he or she can show you a broad portfolio of his/her own pre- and post-op pictures.
Increased scar tissue that build up over the nasal cartilages just above the tip making the tip appear thick and wider after a Rhinoplasty. Thick, oily skin is the most prone.
It is unusual to have pain one month post rhinoplasty, but there are several possible causes such as residual swelling and sinus obstruction. You should schedule an appointment with your surgeon.
You appear to be a great candidate. Your photo suggest that you have strong large convex tip cartilages which create a shape that is out of proportion with the rest of your nose. Since this is primarily cartilage and not thick skin you should be able to have nice reduction and shaping. How much...
Thank you for your question. There is no answer to this as every rhinoplasty case has its own degree of complications and uniqueness. The key point is to find a surgeon that you are comfortable with that has the knowledge and training to be able to both verbally and physically show you the end...
Hi, The picture is a little difficult to discern but if you still have tip fullness at 3 weeks it will probably not go down that much more... You can have your surgeon try Kenelog injections but that may not work. If it's still present at 3 months post-op it probably won't change much and...
Laurelee, most of our patients here in San Diego typically require some degree of assistance for only 24 hours following rhinoplasty. Thereafter, they are, for the most part, on their feet capable of taking care of themselves fairly independently. Most of my rhinoplasty patients are off of the...
