You will find different surgeons have their own way for treating scars, for my patients I find once the incision has healed silicone sheeting is very good for scar management. Good luck.
Abdominoplasty scars can be quite complex, ranging from the simple hypertrophic scar to a multiplane inflamed keloid. Pigmentation, discoloration, chronic inflammation, scar visibility can all occur in the short term. We begin each treatment with combination therapy using Yellow broadband BBL, Vbeam, fractional erbium, intralesional IIT, and scar modulation. Start with a combination of Plato's Scar Serum massaged twice daily after one week of epithelialization followed by Luminase/Exfolase. Scar consultation and revision may be recommended. Thank you for your question. In general, silicone therapy has the best evidence for improvement in scar appearance. There are several manufacturers who make silicone strips that can be placed over the incision. In my practice, I recommend Biocorneum scar therapy. This is a silicone gel with UV protection. It is used twice a day for about 3 months. Scar massage can be helpful as well. Best to check with your surgeon. Good luck.
Thank you for your question. There are a wide array of scar treatments, and there are a lot of different schools of thought. Some people feel as though pressure on the scar helps it to heal flat and thin; others feel as though massaging the scar can help to keep it flat and thin. In my opinion, silicone sheets are great, as is anything topical like Biocornium. The truth of the matter is that most scars will fade with time - and time is the best thing for them. The other truth is to be consistent with whatever you decide - I would speak with your Plastic Surgeon about his or her scar treatment modality, as everyone seems to have a favorite. Best of luck!
The best treatments for scars in general, including tummy tucks, are gentle pressure. This can be donewith scar massage using your fingers and lotion or compression garment with afoam or Silicone gel insert.
There are many topical treatments purported to improve the appearance of scars. In my opinion, the most benefit is from the act of massaging the scar, rather any specific lotion or cream. Some patients like using Biooil, vitamin E or cocoa butter. It is also important to protect the scar from sun for the first year after surgery so it does not hypo or hyperpigment. Finally, most scars will lighten and fade significantly just with the passage of time. Talk with your surgeon before using any topicals as you will want the wound to be completely healed before beginning to massage. There are many schools of thought on this subject, so discuss it with your surgeon .
Thank you for your questions. This is a complex question. In regards to insurance coverage it has been my experience (as a doctor that takes insurance for some of these types of procedures) that Medicaid will often cover hernia repair, occasionally cover panniculectomy (if certain criteria are...
Some may have you wait 3-4 months before allowing you to have surgery. Best to review your issue with your surgeon.
Yes. In appropriate cases, insurance based procedures such as a panniculectomy and cosmetic procedures such as a tummy tuck can be performed in the same setting.
