How long will I be in the hospital for a gastric sleeve?

Hello. That s a nice question. It will be according with the hospital and medical criteria and protocols. There are places were you are admited the same day of surgery and have to stay for one or two nights after surgery. There are some trials for ambulatory programs but is not recommended yet  and my personal opinion is that you must stay for one or two nights.Regards

My patients go home when they are tolerating a liquid diet, ambulating, pain is controlled, and I am not worried about a leak.  Usually that happens the day after surgery.  Some patients stay a bit longer because of nausea.  I would never send a patient home the same day as surgery because I like to check for signs of bleeding or leak the following day.  This requires serial monitoring of vital signs and a blood test.
