Technically I guess you could have those two surgeries together. I would not recommend that. With the gastric sleeve they'll be entering your abdomen with scopes and filling it with air that can cause great discomfort. It was also can cause distortion of the abdomen which may not give the plastic surgeon the best landscape to judge your augmentation once this done. I would separate the procedures.Good luck.Earl Stephenson Jr, M.D., DDS, FACS
Thank you for raising the question about performing breast augmentation with another procedure. It's a common question/issue. While it is frequently safe to do a breast augmentation with many other procedures, I don't feel it makes sense to do both of these procedures simultaneously. Any significant weight/body changes that would occur after a sucessful gastric (stomach) weight loss operation might negatively impact breast appearance even with implants. There is likely to be significant breast changes and drooping even with implants in place. In addition, a gastric procedure has a different sterility classification than breast implant surgery and theoretically could negatively impact the implants. I would separate these two particular procedures. I inform patients to reach a stable weight before any breast/body contouring for best results. Good luck!
Although it is possible to perform them during the same operative time, the weight loss resulting from the gastric sleeve would outweigh the results achieved with breast augmentation.Ideally, after the gastric sleeve is performed, once the ideal weight loss has been achieved, a year later, the patient should have a breast augmentation.
Hello, thank you for your question. Technically, both procedures could be done at the same time. It is not recommended, because your breast will sag after you loose a lot of weight, even if you don't have a lot of volume, the best thong to do is have your granitic sleeve, and then think about your breast surgery after you loose all the weight and stabilize in a given weight, if you do it before, you will definitely have to do a breast revision after loosing weight. Another problem is mixing a gastrointestinal procedure with a clean procedure like a breast augmentation, and there could be a risk of infection afterwards, so don't put yourself at risk. Hope to have been helpful, good luck with your surgery
Thank you for your question. Both Drs. Yao and Jack below have answered your question well. Personally I don't feel increased anesthesia time is a big issue. We routinely combine breast surgery with other operations. Nor do I think the gastric sleeve procedure would increase the infection risk for the breast surgery, especially if the breast surgery was done first. However, I strongly agree with the two surgeons that you should hold off on breast augmentation until you see the weight loss effects of the gastric sleeve. Weight loss could lead to a major change in your breasts which might lead you to re-think your reasons for breast augmentation. You may wish to have a different implant size. You might find your self a candidate for a breast lift, if the weight loss leads to more breast drooping. Best wishes on your upcoming weight loss.
Although combining breast augmentation with other cosmetic procedures is common and often safe, this combination of procedures is not a great idea for several reasons. One you will increase your anesthesia time. Two you are dealing with an implant and it must be placed in perfectly sterile conditions otherwise it could become contaminated and a gastric procedure would increase the risk of this complication. Three and possibly most importantly, if you are doing a gastric sleeve for weight loss, you need to wait until you lose the weight before doing any other surgery! If you operate before your body is ready you will likely end up being unhappy and needing to redo what was already done because of the changes your body experiences with large volume weight loss. As you lose large volumes of weight, you will experience changes in how you look and feel, especially changes in your skin. Often with massive weight loss, you are left with excess skin that may need to be removed and the breasts are no exception.
For gastric sleeve just a few months ago is that some insurance companies consider it as an option for bariatric surgery. In my Dominican Republic still no insurance company approves the bariatric surgeries. Someday your insurance approve this type of surgery, maybe you should try some other...
Hello. thanks for the question. The sleeve gastrectomy is an excellent procedure in fact has similar results to gastric bypass in terms of weight loss, less need for nutritional supplementation, however for patients sweet lovers maybe not be the best option, in Latin America...
I think that sleeve gastrectomy is a very safe surgery. All ones have some risks but are less that you decided to continue with your obesity. Remember that obesity is not just a condition, obesity is a dissease.Lap ban have less risk but more complications in long time. Bypass is more risk...
