You should follow your surgeon's advice, however,I generally advise patients wear their garment 24 hours a day for three weeks, removing it only when bathing or washing it. From 3 to 6 weeks, wear your garment in the day only. It helps with easing swelling and reducing the risk of seroma.
Usually flakes off by itself in 2-3 weeks. If it is taking longer than 3 weeks, then a greasy ointment, like vaseline or neosporin, will help it loosen and come off. Ask your surgeon before doing this, though!
