I had Juvederm lip injection yesterday and my lips look very fake. Will it get better in time?

It is completely normal to see swelling in your lips after juvederm injection. This will subside in the next few days. My only concern would be that you were not told by your injector that this would happen temporarily. I'd stop the icing for now and gently massage your lips. Most patients see a "final" result in about a week. Good luck!

Swelling is normal for approximately two weeks, and most significant for the first three days, after lip injections. Juvederm, a hyaluronic acid filler, is hydrophilic which means the gel has an affinity to retain water and cause swelling. Given that you liked the size of your lips directly after the injections, this is likely how it should look after the swelling subsides. Do not judge the size of your lips for two weeks, at which point you may follow up with your injector to dissolve it if you wish. In the meantime, lip swelling can be minimized by sleeping with your head slightly elevated, avoiding things that make you puffy (salty foods, alcohol), a daily long-acting anti-histamine (Claritin), and icing for 10 minutes every hour. Keep in mind that swelling will be the worst when you first wake up in the morning and improve as you are upright throughout the day. For severe swelling, you should immediately follow up with you injector for a cortisone shot to decrease swelling within 24 hours.

You may have had too much put in,You should start out with 1cc of filler and go from there. You do not want to overdo too much filler in the lips. It also depends on the look you are going for.You can always add more filler to the lips if needed. Just remember if you are going to do your lips and you do not want to bruise you should not take any aspirins or anything that will thin the blood since brusing can occur.

The day after Juvederm, most people will have a lot of water retention in the injection areas, so it's not the right time to judge.  It needs 7-10 days.  If it looked pretty good right after injection, then you can expect to go back to that once swelling is done.

Thank you for sharing your concerns. You will probably look great in a week. It is not unusual to swell for a few days following the injection. Cold compresses and Arnica might help with the swelling. See your doctor if you become more swollen. Good luck.

Thank you for your question.  It is very common for the lips to look over corrected or fake the next day.  This is due to all the swelling that ensues.  It may last a few days with every day showing a decrease in swelling.  I would wait a few days to a a week and then return to your injector if you still have concerns after that.

Thank you for your question.  Typically what you see at the completion of injections is what you will see after all the swelling resolves.  The swelling may last anywhere from 1-5 days, so continue your icing regiment and after a week if you are still unhappy please follow back up with your physician for further evaluation and management.  Regards, Dr. Matt Elias

First take a very deep breath. If you likes the size of your lips immediately after the procedure, most probably that is what you will have in a few days when the swelling reaction goes away. It is very normal to be swollen the first 48-72 hours after Juvederm injections to the lips. Keep using the ice as you are doing. You are swollen. Ice it more frequently and for 48 hours after the treatment. It wil go down. Also use arnica Montana 30x pellets - 5 pellets 3x per days for 3-4 days. Give it a full 2 weeks before you make any judgments on the effect. I also use a blunt tipped cannula during the injection to reduce swelling  

Hithanks for the questions.  I would try and relax, take a few breaths and wait a few days.  If your lips looked good at the end of the procedure, then you will likely be ok.  There can be significant swelling of the lips after injection.  There also can be some bleeding and bruising from the injection.  I would cut back on all the icing.  Call your injector and ask them to see you in the next couple of days for a follow up.  Hope this helps
