I was injected in 2 places with cortisone for acne cysts (above lip and corner of mouth) leaving me with depressions in the skin! I was told by the derm that if the skin pits I could get filler. I’ve since been told that this will work but won’t heal it completely but also been told that filler can cling to scar tissue and make the indent look worse!! Would filler be best? I’ve also been recommended saline and I’ve read about fat grafting? It’s hard to know who’s advice to follow.
Answer: Cortisone Skin Depressions Can Respond To Saline Injections, Subcision, & Fillers You didn't say when you got the "cortisone" (usually triamcinolone acetonide these days) injections. If only a few weeks ago, you may consider either waiting( since very often these depressions refill with time, as the steroid is metabolized away and the skin responds may new collagen and elastic fiber synthesis) and/or saline injections to clear any residual steroid out. If more than half a year has passed without change and no response to saline, then subcision may be tried along with the use of a filler. Make sure that you consult with a board certified aesthetic physician. Best of luck

Answer: Dent Dear Magical271293, it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Based on your photos, it looks like you would benefit from dermal fillers injection. If you are considering a treatment, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Scars Dear Magical,I’m sorry this happened, but it’s a likely side effect of the cortisone, no matter who performs it unfortunately. I would try simple things first. I’m not sure the saline will work that well on it’s own. It can be used initially to assist in untethering the scar from the base with the help of subcision (where a sharp instrument cuts the fibres that attaches the top of the skin to the base). Once the scar is mobile then one could fill with a dermal filler. The choice of this can be discussed with your medical aesthetic practitioner biostimulator versus HA. Filling without untethering will make it look worse. You may need a couple of sessions for the best results. Some scars I have done years ago with HA still look good without touch ups but some need top ups every 9 months or so, choose a medical professional who has experience and prescribing abilities, in case an artery is blocked during the procedure.Good luck with this,Dr Maeve K

Answer: Treating facial depressions Even though fat grafting is an excellent procedure foralger hollows on the face, since in your case the depression is rather small I would decide to go with a filler such as Restylane or Restylane lyft as they it will provide you with a longer lasting effect. I hope this helps and good luck from New York City plastic surgery
