Firstly, I thank those who answered my earlier enquiry about having my pecs re-done for a bit more size. You gave me some very useful tips. I want to ask specifically: "What is the difference between the oval implants and the (apparently more recently introduced) squarer ones". I cannot see any before and afters which specify, and photos of pec implants are often quite difficult to judge anyway as they do not capture the changes easily. Thanks again for the useful info so far.
Answer: Vertical-Rectangular vs Oval Pecs Oval pec implants generally enhance more of the lower part of the pectoral / chest area where as the vertical-rectangular pec implants enhance more uniformly the lower and upper chest toward the collar bone as well as along the middle of the chest from top to bottom. There is no one is better or one is right or wrong. It simply depends on what each individual wants for results. I would say that about 8 out of 10 patients of mine choose the vertical-rectangular shaped implants. Results will also very much depend on what you are starting with as far as the contours of your chest, the bony structure, the amount of muscle, and fatty tissue or gynecomastia if present. I also generally recommend people to be reasonably conservative to have a natural result. As the implant gets larger and heavier, the more likely it is to have issues with displacement, visability or palpability. I prefer to aim for well done, rather than over done.

Answer: What is my best option for pec augmentation? Oval versus rectangular implant Thank you for your question. As with #BreastImplants today, we have now access to a wider variety of pectoral implants. In my 13 years experience (since 2001), I have used both oval and the square-rectangular implants from both companies: Brazilian Scientra/Silimed and the USA-Spectrum Medical implants. Oval ones tend to be very natural; it will enhance mostly the inferior 2/3 of the chest. I find it very natural in its look, and I call it the swimmer look. Think Michael Phelp. Even when lifting the arms up, the implant seems to remain always under the pectoralis muscle, therefore hidden. The square or rectangular/vertical one is for the serious body-builder look; heavy both inferiorly and superiorly. Tends to be ‘blocky’. This implant looks good - and proportionate - on very muscular guys. The outer-lower corner of the square implant can show slightly when the arms are up as the pectoral muscles becomes very 'oblique' when the arms are lifted. The final implant is chosen according to your anatomy and your desired look.#DrMarcDuPere, #Toronto board-certified plastic surgeon
