Will I feel anything while I'm awake during surgery?

I am a little concerned that this question was not answered by your planned physician.  It is customary to spend a signficant amount of time with patients describing the type of procedure, expectations, and post operative instructions.  Tumescent liposuction has very little pain and patients are typically feeling fine and able to do their normal routine in a few days post procedure.  Best, Dr. Emer.

If you are remaining awake then you will most likely be given local anesthesia with sedation to help you relax.You may feel some pain and discomfort, but this is generally well controlled by pain medications. Most patients experience a mild degree of discomfort for 5-7 days.Please talk to your surgeon and his/her staff to get the answers you need before your procedure. I am sure he or she wants to make sure you are well-informed and feeling comfortable. 

Small areas of liposuction cab be done awake.  I certainly hope you are having the procedure done by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.  Compression is used afterwards to help with swelling and the long term outcomes of liposuction.
