Hit in the nose 6 weeks post op rhinoseptoplasty! (Photo)

Question

I had my procedure on the 9th of December 2014. Last weekend I knocked the tip of my nose a few times whilst kissing, today I was bringing my hand up to my face and I accidentily knocked the bridge of my nose with some force. I put some ice cubes on it for 10 mins.The last thing I want is a large bump on my nose! There was no bleeding but it was a very sharp pain. I already have a small bump on my nose, I noticed it when my cast was removed 5 days after my surgery, scared I might exaggerate it.

Dear misskhan97Thanks for the question. The strength of the impact is crucially important to say something processing. If it’s in the first month and the shape of the nose looks damaged retouch can be done. Of course, the physical examination is the key to figure out actual damage it’s better to visit your doctor immediately. I wish you all the best.

It's not uncommon that patients may bump or hit their nose after rhinoplasty.  Most of the time no harm is done though it can be much more tender and hurt.  A conservative approach in most situations is warranted.  Of course notify your surgeon who should be available to address any concerns.  Even if there is a bump or asymmetry, observation may be best before considering revising the surgery.

At six weeks post-rhinoplasty, it is unlikely that you have significantly injured your nose with the amount of trauma that you have described.  Allow the swelling to subside and follow up with your surgeon on a routine basis.  In the event that something needs to be addressed, they will have been there to offer solutions at the appropriate time.

Generally speaking, unless the trauma to your nose was moderate to severe, it is unlikely to have a significant effect on the outcome. However, swelling and occasional bleeding are not uncommon.Obviously, if the appearance of your nose does not seem right after all the swelling has resolved, regardless of the reason, you will want to discuss the options with your surgeon.

It is unlikely that the minor trauma you describe would have a major negative effect in your nose.  However, your surgeon is the best person to advise you and to follow your recovery closely.  Remember that the swelling after a rhinoplasty surgery can  take several months to completely resolve.  Best wishes
