Facelift after sliding genioplasty, how long to wait?

This is best to address with your surgeons. As soon as swelling after genioplasty is gone you could proceed with face lift surgery. Why not consider face lift and chin implant augmentation in the same time? Good luck.

There is no exact time period to wait for having a facelift after a sliding genioplasty.  In my opinion, I would want any swelling from the genioplasty resolved before doing the facelift.  I would think that about 3 months would be sufficient but everyone heals differently, so it would be important to monitor your recovery after the genioplasty.  

I appreciate your inquiry. When elective procedures are staged, the amount of time between surgeries will depend in large part on how long it takes swelling to go down from the initial procedure. If you don’t allow that to occur, the surgeon performing the facelift will not have an accurate baseline to work with when making corrections to the lower jawline. For most patients, three months is a good rule of thumb in terms of waiting for a subsequent procedure. These two procedures can be combined or facelift may be scheduled 6 months  after the genioplasty. The latter would be more advisable. Genioplasty reconstructs the chin bone, which is where the muscles attach. Therefore, having both procedures done at one time might not give you the best result, although the success rate depends on the patient's rate of recovery and the skill of the surgeon.

Thank you for your question.Your surgeon will have the most accurate anatomy to work with if you wait for all swelling to resolve in the chin.  How long this will take depends on each patient.  I’ve found typically at 3 months the majority of swelling is gone and perhaps that would be a reasonable time.  You and your surgeon will need to make a determination as to if the chin swelling is resolved.Best Dr. L

The sliding genioplasty should be done first followed by the facelift three months later. That would give adequate time for all chin swelling to subside and the final result to be seen.
