What are the chances of microneedling causing hyperpigmentation?

What are the chances of getting hyperpigmentation as a side-effect of microneedling on dark skin tone? (I have caramel colour skin tone). I have read reviews and looked at pictures on the internet but haven't come across any from people with dark skin tone.

Hyperpigmentation is seen in darker skin types after any trauma. In my practice we make sure our patients are adequately prepared with skin products that prevent the process of hyperpigmentation. Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation is rarely permanent either. The quality of the microneedling device is also an important factor.

Thank you for your question. In our practice we pretreat the skin for darker skin types to prevent any post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Microneedling is an excellent treatment for all skin types for total skin rejuvenation and collagen induction. I would recommend using PRP during your treatment to improve overall results and quicker healing.

Thank you for your question.  While no procedure is without risk, in my experience, miconeedling is one of the safest collagen-stimulating treatments in patients of color.  I generally recommend that patients with darker skin prepare their skin with excellent sun protection, skin lightening agents, and Retin A for a few weeks further minimize the risks.  I would recommend scheduling a consultation with a cosmetic dermatologist to discuss your treatment options.  Best of luck!

If pure non energy microneedling with conservative passes and good pre and post skin care, the chances are less than 3%. If PIH occurs, easily fixed with low dose lasers and HQ. See a Specialist for an examination. Energy based micro needling eg. RF has a higher chance of PIH if the treatment level is shallow and the needle is non- insulated.
