A telltale sign of some traditional facelift incisions includes the loss of the temporal hair tufts, but newer techniques have evolved so that is no longer a problem. However, for those who have had surgery with the older technique, there is hope. Hair transplantation is an excellent option for those who wish to restore a natural appearance to their sideburns. We commonly perform follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplantation in my practice, where individual hair follicles are harvested from the back of your scalp and transplanted to the sideburns region. The transplanted follicles are inserted at an angle to mimic the natural direction of hair growth. The procedure is usually performed in half a day. Thank you for posting a great question.
Loss of side burns is a tell-tale sign of having had a face lift, especially if the surgeon placed the original incision in front of the ear, instead of further forward at the hair line.  Similarly, too high a forehead can also result from a poorly placed browlift incision.
A hair transplant is a great solution to this problem, and can give great results when done properly, with attention paid to the direction and angle of hair graft placement.  The number of grafts required will depend on how large an area is involved, so photos would be helpful.
