Smoke contains 4000 toxic substances. Theeffects of each of these substances on the outcome of tummy tuck has not beenstudied individually. The most important issues with cigarette smoke isthe carbon monoxide, which compromises the oxygen delivery to the healingtissues, and the nicotine, which causes spasm of the blood vessels deliveringblood to the healing wound. Anything that compromises healing can lead toan increase risk of infection, wound separation, or tissue necrosis. Clearly eliminating the smoke is importantbecause of the carbon monoxide poisoning of the blood. Eliminatingnicotine is important as well. It would be wise to stay away fromnicotine and carbon monoxide until everything is completely healed.
Any kind of smoking ( cigarets, hookah, electronic cigarettes) is bad for healing process after any surgery, including elective plastic surgery like tummy tuck revision and back lift.Patients who smoke before and after surgery may develop necrosis of the tissues (necrosis = death of the tissues). Therefore, patients must stop smoking cigarets, hookah, etc at least 2 to 3 weeks before surgery
#TummyTuckRevision surgery Revision surgery is unusual but may be desired for several reasons. Most revisions should be done after 9-12 months. One cause for revision surgery are “dog ears” at the ends of the incisions. Excess fat or loose skin may require liposuction and skin excision to obtain the best result. In any case; smoking of any type may be harmful and certainly should be refrained from before and after surgery
Because you are planning elective cosmetic surgery you have theopportunity to get your self in a position to minimize your recovery and maximize your results. Avoid aspirin, aspirin products, fish oil, flax seed oil, excess vitamin E, alcohol and smoking. Especially with abdominoplasty surgery which is a major surgery and good circulation is critical for good wound healing. Good Luck!
Yes, smoking of any kind will be detrimental to your health. It slows down healing, leading to a much higher potential for wound issues. Stop smoking or don't have the surgery. Best, Dr. Nazarian
Smoking is absolutely contraindicated for type of surgery you need. You are exposing yourself to a significant risks of skin loss, infection and prolonged healing. You should quit smoking at least 6 weeks before such extensive surgery. Do not use nicotine patch! You should discuss this issue in detail with your surgeon before surgery. Good luck.
Thank you for your question.I would recommend no smoking for 3 weeks prior to your procedure and at least 3 weeks after. It is better to be safe when it comes to healing, you do not want to have any unnecessary problems. Good luck.
Smoking will harm the surgical healing and make anesthesia more difficult. It will need to be stopped before surgery.
I agree with my colleagues that it is critically important to avoid tobacco use, and I recommend that patients abstain from any nicotine exposure for at least six weeks. The kind of procedures that you are considering require skin to be elevated and that compromises its blood supply. Nicotine causes further constriction of those blood vessels, and consequently puts a patient at risk for skin loss, wound healing problems, infection, and scarring. Nothing substitutes for good judgement, and you should do everything you can to minimize your risks and optimize your chances for a great surgical outcome. I would encourage you to discuss the matter further with your operative surgeon, and consider involving your internist in efforts to discontinue tobacco use. Best of luck!
Please stop all forms of smoking at least 6 weeks prior to surgery, especially the type of surgery you are having done. You are already at risk of wound healing problems as a recent smoker. Don't make it worse by being an active smoker. To your health and beauty,Dr. Kavali

Hello! Thank you for your question. #Swelling can persist for several months and will gradually improve and will look better at three months, six months, and even one year. An evaluation for a #tummytuck #revision should be done at that time. I know it is difficult to be patient, but in the long...
Hello, thank you for your question and photos. A recovery period for #musclerepair would be similar to your #TT #recovery. In my opinion you need to be #evaluated by a board certified plastic surgeon. The PS that provided your care in the first #TT would be best because the PS knows you well....
