Are Butterfly Grafts Common in Revision Rhinoplasty for Nasal Valve Collapse?

I was wondering if the butterfly graft a common graft used in a revision rhinoplasty. I was also wondering what are the indications for its use and what are the pros and cons for using a butterfly graft as opposed to spreader grafts? Thank You

Butterfly grafts aren't commonly used, but are well-known grafts that are useful in rhinoplasty. They are also known as "internal breathe right strips."  These grafts give added support to the cartilage of the nose, holding them up so that the airway in your nose is slightly larger.  The indication for its use is collapse of the airway of the nose or narrowing of the airway of the nose.
Spreader grafts are generally more common.  They are placed on either side of your septum to "widen" this area known as the nasal valve. Widening the valve makes the airway in your nose slightly larger and also helps with breathing.  The indication for it's use is similar to butterfly grafts.
Pros and cons for both grafts are related to how well either option can improve your airway as well as how either option may change the appearance of your nose. To determine which option is best for you, I recommend a consultation with a facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon who specializes in the nose.

I would not say that butterfly grafts are a common solution for nasal valve collapse. For me, the procedure is usually lower on the list of options. The problem with a butterfly graft is that it can cause some elevation of the profile. Dorsal spreader grafts for the internal nasal valves and alar strut or batten grafts for the external nasal valves are the most common solutions.
