Most women can feel the lower and side edges of their implants. This is most common when one has thinner skin cover and as the implant gets larger relative to the amount of breast tissue. This is normal.We have newer implants that have increased "cohesivity" which may help, especially if you have rippling of the implants. Other options would be to use your own fat grafts or biologic materials to add additional thickness to the tissue coverage.
This is not only usual, it's expected. Tissue coverage over implants after mastectomy is thin. We can camouflage the implant using fat transfer or products like Alloderm. And there are implants today that are firmer, and look better under the skin. If you are unhappy, you should seek consultation to understand what can be done.
It is quite common especially in very thin women that the implant is palpable and sometimes even visible in the lower pole of the breast. Sometimes an ADM or fat grafting can camouflage this.
