Question

Female/30 yrs considering having my hairline lowered hair as I have a high forehead (attached). I wanna have my hairline lowered by 1-1.5 cm. I am wondering which method should I go for? FUT (strip) or FUE? Which one yield better and permanant results? Which one would give a higher density? Which one would give a more natural results in the hairline area? Is it ok to get pregnant after hair transplant? Is it true that there is a specific tonic/ shampoo that must be used for at least one year?

FUE is just a harvesting method.  It does not relate to results.  Keep in mind FUE is done with the head shaved.  FUT is not.  This may be an issue if you are a woman.

The best way to lower a female hairline if the person has enough elasticity of their scalp is with Direct advancement of the hairline. If properly done this will not leave a noticeable scar. We developed the Irregular  Trichophytic hairline lowering procedure 35 years ago. This gives a natural density and you do not have to wait for grafts to grow. It is much less expensive and there is NO texture change of the hair.

Thank you for your question.You could choose either FUE or FUT. Both methods have similar results. The difference is in the donor site where the strip method leaves a hidden scar and the FUE method does not leave a visible scar. Another way to lower your hair line would be forehead reduction which is a surgical procedure. You are referring to extraction methods when in fact the result is probably more determined by placement.  Strip gives a scar across the back of the head.  FUE does not.  In experienced hands, both methods will work well.  But one leaves a big scar and the other doesn't.

My preference in woman to lower the anterior hairline is to perform one session of FUT, as the scar will not be visible. FUE can be done as well, but I don't feel comfort to shave a woman's head. A second procedure can be done if a density improvement is desired after the final result.I personally don't like the hairline lowering with scalp advancement as it leaves a scar in front of the hair, and the quality of this scar is variable. Also alterations in forehead sensibility can appear.

If you're concerned about achieving normal uniform density consider the hair line lowering technique that we described many years ago using the Irregular Trichophytic Hairline Incision in which we make incisions in the soft hair, move the scalp down, and remove the appropriate amount of bald skin below the existing hair line. The forehead is reduced giving the patient total freedom of hair styling. The results are accomplished a lot quicker, normal hair products are used after surgery, and you can get pregnant any time after the operation.

Your two choices are really less  important than the experience of your surgeon and his/her skill  creating the result in the recipient area. As a woman, the donor area should never be an issue as you will not be shaving your whole head in the future. Scars of a strip harvest are less  noticeable  than those of a facelift.  The quality of the individual grafts, the depth and angles of the recipient incidions, the density of the grafts, and cost should all be your considerations. To get density that will be optimal you would need two sessions of grafts and over a year for sufficient growth to occur. Hairline lowering by scalp advancement would be a third consideration.This gives the greatest density, the quickest result, and is likely the most cost effective approach. Avoid getting pregnant while you are taking medications. You likely will not need meds by 6 weeks after surgry. No particular topical hair products make much difference after surgey other than as grooming aids.

For women, the strip does not require shaving the back of the head so it may be a preferable short term solution. It is also often less expensive and may be a better procedure to maximize the number of grafts. My own wife had it done twice with a strip at my recommendation despite my being the original FUE pioneer. She had great results
