I have had two syringes of Juvederm Ultra in past month. Now my top lip is bigger than my bottom lip (Photo)

Question

1syringe of Juvederm Ultra bottom lip was way bigger then top so I waited 3 weeks. Then had second syringe added but more in the top. But now been almost 4 days and My top lip is greatly bigger then bottom . It’s so much to where I can barely close my mouth and it sticks out like duck lips on the side?! I have been icing around the clock as well taking Tylenol for pain and using Bacitracin ointment . Will it go down ?

There is a great variability of swelling after lip fillers. Most patients don't swell very much but I caution patients, regardless of their history of not swelling in the past, never to have fillers injected very soon before an important social or work function as at any time, they may develop significant swelling. Often the swelling is not an allergic or immune reaction, but a physical reaction to volume and a lack of drainage of normal fluids. This may go down in several days but there are rare cases that we prescribe medication for this. Many patients take Arnica, an over-the-counter herb that can help reduce swelling and bruising. Always check with your doctor if you can take something new.2 ccs of Juvederm for lips is a significant amount and some may need to be dissolved, with hyaluronidase injections, to have more normal looking lips and you should folllow up with your doctor to see if this is needed and what the best time would be do it.The information provided in Dr. Shelton's answer is for educational purposes only and is not intended to constitute medical advice. Swelling can be typical after your touch-up. Icing and cold compresses may give improvement. I would wait a full 2 weeks before judging the results. If it is after the two week wait, you can have the filler reversed with hyaluronidase.

After 4 days you are most likely still swollen from your most recent injections. If things still look the same after 2 weeks then I would recommend having the filler dissolved with Hyaluronidase. Make sure you are under the care of an experienced physician provider. Best wishes.

It's too soon to tell what your final results will be after your touch-up. You have swelling, which can last 1-2 weeks after lip injections. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer
