Can lip injections cause bumps on your lips if you have braces? Is there anything to get rid of them? (Photos)

The bumps on the lip, post filler injections, can be caused by different things. Most likely, it is the hyaluronic acid filler product that can be massaged to soften it up or can also be injected with hylenex to dissolve the product. Braces can sometimes cause irritation to the lips, but HA fillers draw water molecules into the skin so they can initially be more swollen, and should be settled within 10-14 days after any bruising and swelling resolve.

It might be possible that if there is a piece of hardware from orthodonture that pushes outwardly and on to the lip from inside, that it may press some filler to the side immediately after the injections are done making a slight lump. I have not injected someone with braces yet and don't know of such an issue but just hypothesizing. Your photographs appear to show localized overfilling that can happen not uncommonly when filler moves during the injection slightly to the adjacent area that the doctor wants to localize it in. This overfilled area can be dissolved with an enzyme. The other possibility is bruising which can feel like a lump for a couple of weeks or more before it goes away. There can be some swelling and/or lumps after lip injections which can last 1-2 weeks. You can apply firm pressure between two fingers on the lips for a few days, for 5 mins a time, in order to help decrease swelling and even out the lumps. If you're unhappy with your final results you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. Best, Dr. Emer

Lumps and bumps in the lips after filler can be related to swelling and are usually temporary.  However, if too much filler is placed in 1 spot or too superficially in the lips, persistent bumps can be created.  Thankfully, these can be dissolved very quickly with hyaluronidase.   However, the wearing braces has nothing to do with bumps in the lips after filler.  Best of luck.

Lumps are a typical side effect after fillers. I would wait a full two weeks before assessing results.  If it is after the two week wait, you can have the filler reversed with hyaluronidase.

The bumps could simply be areas of swelling post injection. Finger roll massaging them will help. Give it a full two weeks post procedure. If issues persist speak to treating physician. Good luck from New York City
