Do any doctors offer sedation for the CO2 laser procedure?

Be sure to see an experienced practitioner and they will help to make you as comfortable as possible during the CO2 laser. Usually a topical numbing cream can be applied to the entire area to be treated. It will set for 20-30 minutes and you will be quite numb. Another option for areas that may be treated with more aggressive settings is to inject a small amount of lidocaine under the skin. This will work faster and provide a bit more numbing effect. Thank you for your question and I appreciate your concern. Most patients find topical anesthetic is sufficient for keeping them comfortable during a CO2 laser procedure. Oral sedation is also an option for patients that are especially apprehensive about their procedures. To ease your fears, make sure you are working with a board-certified dermatologist who is an expert in laser treatments. By knowing you are in good hands, you should be able to feel more comfortable with the process.

Local anesthesia nerve blocks combined with topical anesthesia, pronox and some valium should be plenty for good pain control. Of course, IV sedation can be performed as well, usually unnecessary, however, is an option if you are very afraid of potential pain. 

Topical anesthesia with local anesthetic injections should suffice. You can consider pro Nox, and combinations of oral sedation instead of Valium or Xanax alone.

Traditional, non fractionated CO2 requires intravenous sedation. Fractionated CO2 can be performed with intralesional local anesthesia, nerve block ,Pronox ( nitrous/oxygen) with oral supplementation. Good luck. Jeff Rapaport MD FAADRealself All-star

There are several options available to make CO2 laser treatment comfortable.  While general anesthesia and IV sedation are possible, I find this is unnecessary.  Local anesthesia and/or nerve blocks can be used, which allows the procedure to be tolerated very well.  

Thank you for your question, each doctor has different methods when it comes to sedation. The CO2 treatment can be painful but not intolerable here at JUVA we use a topical anesthetic called Lidocaine. It is a topical cream that numbs the area of treatment. Our patients feel no discomfort with this option during our laser treatments as long as you don’t have any allergies to this product you should be good to go. Please makes sure you seek treatment from a board-certified dermatologist.

Sedation anesthesia is best with local administration given. Thus you don't have to go to sleep for the procedure. This is how we generally do the procedure and it works well.
