Did CO2 laser make my skin worse or is this part of the healing process? (photos)

I had CO2 laser done on February 20th, 2019, and it will be three weeks this upcoming Wednesday. My skin had hyperpigmentation and deeper acne scarring (pictured). I used Vaseline and the vinegar soaks, and the Vaseline did make me breakout. Weirdly, I didn’t scab but I did feel my skin feeling very itchy and dry (to which I constantly moisturized). Now, I’m seeing even more unevenness than before and deeper scarring. Is this normal? Thanks in advance!

Hi Melissa, I suggest following up with your doctor or a cosmetic dermatologist for a formal evaluation and after care recommendations. I advise my patients to use skin care with vitamin C, b5 hydrator, silicone-based scar gels with growth factors, and enzymatic washes with papaya enzyme to give improvement. Sun protection is essential.In addition to lasers like CO2, acne and hyperpigmentation can be improved with peels like Cosmelan, lasers, microneedling with PRP, subcision, salt facials and fillers. It may take a series of treatments and may need some treatments to maintain. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist and acne scarring expert. Best, Dr. Emer
