Yearly CO2 Laser Treatment? (Photo)

Question

I would like to have CO2 Laser Treatments done once per year. Is this advisable? I had two treatments , 4 months apart, a year ago. Is it helpful to have CO2 laser done once per year to ward off signs of aging? Thank you!

Sure you can have yearly improvement although I find that after a few if you do nonablative lasers like fraxels you end up getting more improvement long term.  you do not need ablation/burn to get the best results long term.  Dr. Emer.

Hello KathyM.,Thanks for your question.I have performed hundred's of CO2 laser procedures.  I feel that yearly treatment is too damaging to the skin and can result in atrophy or thinning of the skin over time.  One or two CO2 laser treatments to kickstart the rejuvenation process are fine, but a more gentle maintenance program would be recommended.The most common process is full face IPL treatment sessions on a yearly basis coupled with antiaging skin care and diet.  Other options include microdermabrasion, chemical peels, and microneedling with PRP (platelet rich plasma).Because laser burns the skin, it heals by microscar formation.  When enough microscar is developed, you can develop atrophy of the skin.You look young now, so aggressive treatment is less necessary.I hope this was helpful.Dr. Shah
