What is more effective for improving uneven skin tone/removing mild acne scarring - Venus Viva or RF Microneedling?

Dear patient, I believe Venus Viva is much more flexible and has the potential to be a lot more aggressive when it comes to the treatment of moderate to deep acne scarring. The settings allow the surgeon to treat from a Voltage of 220-260 Volts and a pulse duration of 10 milliseconds up to 30 milliseconds. This flexibility allows me to choose the thermal damage zone and concentrate on either blood vessels for the treatment of Rosacea, or deeper structures for remodeling of collagen. 
I have seen histologically controlled studies that show needling and dermarollers alone ( a series of 3) can result in a 40% improvement in scarring. In my experience ablative fractional Venus Viva can be even more effective. Another benefit is that the risk of post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation is very low. Patients with darker skin color undergoing traditional laser treatments can experience blotchy skin (post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation). I have performed nearly 100 venus Viva treatments and have seen less than a handful of persistent redness or blotchiness. All have resolved within a few weeks with topical cortisone and anti-inflammatory treatments.

A combination approach will give the most improvement. This needs a combination of microneedling combined with prp, Cosmelan, lasers, subcision and fillers. It will take a series of treatments and may need some treatments to maintain. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an acne scarring expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Both are effective. However the downtime with viva is definitely less. Deeper penetration is not necessarily the criteria for superior clinical results. In both technologies depth oif penetration as well as intensity of treatment can be modified. RFMN is bloody and painful procedure and thats where venus viva scores higher. However I would not hesitate to  combine both in a single session as both are color blind and so no chances of PIH like lasers.
