Can I still have my TT surgery with a ringworm outbreak?

Question

I've been treating a ringworm outbreak since September. Until a couple of nights ago, I was no longer symptomatic. I still have 3 more doses (1/week) of Diflucan and have restarted using Nystatin cream, but my TT surgery is 5 days away. Will I still be able to have my TT even though my ringworms seem to be flaring up again? What should I do?

You want to minimize your risk when doing an elective procedure, so I would recommend that you inform your surgeon about your situation. I would not want to operate on someone with an infection. Good luck!

Hello, I would recommend discussing this with your plastic surgeon.  Even if they are comfortable doing the procedure they should know about any medications you are taking and overall health.

An infection anywhere could create a problem. An elective procedure can and should be postponed if there is any infection going on .

Since this is an elective procedure, it can be rescheduled to a more optimal time in order to decrease the risk of a complication developing because of your ringworm flare-up. I would suggest that you discuss this with your plastic surgeon who should be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and  ideally a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).

Ask your surgeon. Surgeons often have different levels of concerns about all sorts of issues relating to surgery and you need to know how concerned YOUR surgeon is with this. You are having ELECTIVE surgery so it is generally best to be as "normal" as possible when having the procedure.
