Is it a bad idea to get buccal fat removal if I have weak cheekbones? Can facial fillers create a defined high cheekbone look? I don't want pillow/puffy face.

Great question!  Yes a buccal lipectomy can help improve your facial shape by shrinking down the lower cheek region.  By doing this, the jawline and the cheeks become more defined and contoured.  Another treatment to think about is Botox to the posterior jawline as this will also help slim the face from a more squared to a more oval appearance on the frontal views.  However, it is always best to have an in person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon so that your goals are reviewed and the best treatment recommende

Depending on your facial anatomy and what you want to achieve, you can be a suitable candidate for a buccal fat removal procedure. A buccal fat removal procedure basically provides slimming in the lower cheeks. So if you have full, chubby lower cheeks, you may still be a suitable candidate for this operation. Yes, it is a bad idea to get buccal fat removal if the patient has weak cheek bones. The reason is because the face will look aged, gaunt and not attractive after the procedure.Patients seeking buccal fat removal usually have chubby cheeks. However, the ultimate goal after the procedure is to have a chiseled, V-shape, attractive and youthful facial look. This depends on the cheek bones. If the cheek bones are weak, this result can't be achieved (this is one of the main reasons why some patients are dissatisfied with their buccal fat removal procedures).In my practice I always evaluate the cheek bones on buccal fat removal. I have a very strict policy about cheek bones and buccal fat removal. If somebody has weak cheek bones and want a buccal fat removal, he or she MUST enhance their cheek bones either before or the same day of the procedure ( usually hyaluronic acid filler like Voluma). If not, I refuse to perform the procedure.

Buccal lipectomy enhances the contour of the lower portion of the cheekbones. The analysis of buccal lipectomy should include looking at pictures of your parents, your goals and your body fat %. If all these are accounted for then you can still get the procedure.
