I am currently using Rogaine 5% foam as a treatment. I have attached a picture of my crown. My questions: how severe does my thinning in the crown seem like? A Norwood scale reference would be ideal. I have chosen against Propecia. Do you think my crown will be restored from Minoxodil alone?
Answer: Hair Loss -- PRP, Progesterone, Stem Cells, Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUE), Spironolactone or Finesteride, Rogaine looks like you will need transplant and PRP injections with it. I suggest seeing an expert. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: How bald is my crown? When you can see the scalp skin, it means that you have lost at least 50% of your native hair and you have less than 40 hairs per centimeter squared. The Norwood Scale takes into account the front hairline as well. From the crown it looks like you are between a III and a IV. Minoxidil will help increase some of the hair density, but will likely not cover the scalp skin so that it is not visible. The main advantage of minoxidil is to slow down the hair loss. You should look into PRP treatments.

Answer: Minoxodil in the crown Your pattern of hair loss on the Norwood scale looks like it is about a 5. The Minoxodil will help but however it is not the strongest preventative. You should really be thinking about Propecia. Even if you want to cut the pill in half. You can also do that. Propecia is one of the most effective Prevention in ensuring that you do not go onto loose more native hair in your crown. PRP is also an amazing Prevention. We have noticed incredible results. What we do is we take your blood, we spin it in our own centrifuge that we have created and then we mix it with a growth factor and then inject it back into your scalp. We recommend repeating treatments only every 8 months to a year because our PRP is so Powerful and we get about 7 billion platelets with each treatment that we perform. Make sure that the PRP is always red some places the PRP comes out Yellow and that is not very powerful. Those places will expect you to come back every 3-6 months. PRP can be injected anywhere into the scalp and our patients have seen incredible regrowth.

Answer: Bald enough to warrant treatment As was mentioned once you can see the scalp you have fallen below 40 / cm2 and in all likelihood in your case closer to 25-30 hair per sq cm. I do not believe that Rogaine alone will increase hair growth but will maintain hair you have. Finasteride does a better job. At 24 I am always a little loathe to start with hair transplants without a definitive plan for the next 10-15 years. You are the type of patient I would try PRP on for 3 treatments. This can be combined with topical treatment and even laser caps. Only then would I start with surgical therapies. Good luck, Dr. Schuster in Boca Raton Florida

Answer: Crown balding This finding at your age suggests that you may have significantly more balding as you get older. See a doctor and build a Master Plan with that doctor that accounts for the short and long term changes that you are undergoing. Your frontal hairline needs to be examined closely by an expert.
