Is it ok to put on eye lash extensions after upper eye lid surgery?

Hi and thank you for your question.  Upper eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, repairs the natural effects of time and aging by removing excess skin and fat from the upper eyelid.  Since the procedure does not directly affect the portion of the eyelid where you would place your extensions, you can safely apply them.  However, in order to ensure the best possible result, you may want to wait up to 4 weeks to give your incisions enough time to heal before doing so.  The more activity you have in the eye area, the greater the risk of accidentally stressing the incision, lengthening your healing time, or altering your final result.  Check with the board-certified facial plastic surgeon who performed your surgery first, as he will have first-hand knowledge of your procedure.  Best of health!

As long as your eyelids are no longer swollen or sore, eyelash extensions should be fine. They will not affect the crease of your eyes, where the scars are, nor will they require rubbing your eyes to remove them. However, please verify this with your facial plastic surgeon. If you’ve healed enough, you should get the go-ahead. I hope this helps.

I recommend that patients avoid darkly pigmented make up for 10 days following their surgery.  The incisions have healed by this time so the risk of tattooing the incision is quite low. I've never had a patient use lash extensions during this period. As long as the glue is not placed near the incision you should be okay. I think you may be on to something! Best of luck.
