I am 3 weeks post op. What is wrong with my ears? Is my otoplasty a failed surgery? (photo)

My left ear has a concha bowl that looks like its glued, right ear has a weird long fold that seems to concern me. My doctor keep on saying it will resolve over time but i haven't seen any changes and starting to lose hope.

The result indicates that you had your ears pinned with a traditional method. With this method, parts of the cartilage are removed and sometimes it can happen that too much cartilage is removed, creating unsightly edges, as has occurred in your case. This can’t often be corrected. Thank goodness, there is the Merck stitch method in the meantime, by which such deformations are not possible.

Hi zul,

I can see why you are concerned, but
without knowing what your ears looked like before the surgery, it is tough to
put together what was done. Most commonly, the goal of an otoplasty is making
an appropriate antihelical fold. I don’t clearly see this in your result
photos.

You should go back to your surgeon and see
if there is anything that they can do. If you are unhappy with their
suggestions, I would suggest that you seek another opinion. A plastic surgeon
or ENT would be the most suitable choices.
