Can I get a breast augmentation if I have dense breast tissue?

Question

I am looking to have a breast augmentation but have couple fairly large pockets of dense breast tissue in each breast. The tissue is harmless and has been there for over 10 years now, but I am wondering if there are any surgeons who have dealt with this issue before. Thank you so much for any tips!

Hello, yes you may get a breast augmentation while still having dense breast tissue. A pre-operative mammogram is always recommended as well. As well as doing your monthly breast self assessments to check the breast tissue. I hope this helps you with your goals.

Thank you for your question. Womens breasts have a unique ration of two tissue elements, breast tissue (glands, ducts) and fatty tissue. Breast tissue can be more dense or less dense.  The only issue that can arise is a small breasted woman with dense breast tissue is they the implant (silicone hell filled or saline filled) can feel different in consistency from 
the actual breast. But a woman such as yourself with dense breasts can still safely undergo breast augmentation.

Please consult with an experienced board certified plastic surgeon whose results and aesthetics resonate with you, and with whom you feel confident. More than one consultation may be required for you to feel comfortable moving forward. Your plastic surgeon will advise you on all of your implant options, including type and size. Best of luck to

yes you can definitely have a breast augmentation with dense breast tissue. this is very common, especially in younger patients. It may be a good idea to have a preop mammogram to establish a baseline prior to having your implant surgery to rule out any concerns.

Yes you can still be a candidate for breast augmentation.  Having dense breast tissue is not uncommon.  It may be a good idea to have a mammogram before your breast augmentation so that it can be used as a baseline in the future as well as to ensure there are no current concerns.
