Side effects of using a hair laser comb? FUT in 2015.

Question

I have recently started using my hair laser comb again. I wear contact lenses and off late my eyes have been getting dry and irritated. I am seeing an optometrist and it am taking relevant medication but wondering if dry or irritated eyes is a possible side effect of using a hair laser comb?

The use of Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) should not be causing your dry and irritated eyes.  The laser light that is emitted by your laser comb has its effect on the hair follicles of the scalp.  The laser light stimulates the follicles and mainly prevents further hair loss and in some cases helps to grow new hair.  Since the light is directed at the scalp it should not be causing your dry eyes.  But make sure you don't look directly at the light emitting diodes on your comb.

LLLT is thought to work by stimulating the energy producing organelles in the hair cells called mitichondria. There are no long term side effects reported but temporary skin redness can occur.The benefit in genetic male and female pattern hairloss has not been definitively proven however there are some small studies that suggest benefit and numerous anecdotal reports of improvement in hair quality with persistent regular use.

I'm sure the dry eyes, as a colleague mentioned as well, would be unrelated to the low level laser.  One note I would like to make however is that I do not think the laser combs work well since they have so few laser diodes and require a significant amount of time you are meant to comb you hair for.  I recommend caps instead with at least 200 diodes.  Good luck!

There are no known side effects to using any sort of hair laser, it shouldn't be the cause of your dry eyes.
