Thank you for your question in regards to tattoo removal. It is not recommended to have laser tattoo removal sooner than 6 weeks. It is not beneficial as our bodies have not begun breaking down the ink just yet. Also, having treatments so close together can put you at higher risk for blistering and pigmentation issues. To be sure what is best for you, see two or more board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment. I hope this helps.

When doing tattoo removal it is important to allow enough time for the ink to break up and be eliminated. This process takes time. Two weeks between sessions is not enough time for this process to occur. In our office we use the lumenis pico laser and wait at least 8 weeks between sessions. You should talk with your practitioner and determine what their experience is in doing tattoo removal and the rationale for scheduling sessions so close together.
On average, the number of treatments needed to totally remove a tattoo is 9-10sessions spread at least 4-6 weeks apart.
Thanks for yourquestion After doing PicoSure laser tattoo removal for 4 years, we dothings a lot differently that when we started. The key is patience. You are being treated too frequently and you are at EXTREME RISK of major complications.Lasers make the ink particlessmaller so that your body can eliminated them easier. We found that youjust can't rush this process. We see new laser tattoo removal patient at2-3 month intervals but we quickly space the treatments out to every 4-6 monthsto give the body time to clear the shattered ink particles before the nexttreatment. With our longer wait times, we can USUALLY remove the in inkin 6-10 treatments. This has also minimized hypopigmentation. Ihope this helps.
Intervals of at least six weeks between treatments are absolutely mandatory, and even longer waits of 8, 10, 12 weeks and up are preferable. Ink fragments created by the laser energy must be given time to leave the treatment field. This is an inherently slow immune system process that cannot be hurried. It is not at all appropriate to retreat in two weeks, not only from a tissue healing process but also for effectiveness. Any provider embracing this practice lacks sufficient knowledge to treat you safely. Find a medical professional, preferably with a picosecond laser, if available. Above all, stop your current treatments, or insist that they be spaced out properly.Good luck!
