I’m mid 40s and had chin lipo 10 mos ago. I ended up with bad swelling and hard lumps immediately after surgery. I was told to do hard massages everyday and have been doing so this entire time and still wear a chin strap at night. The lumps were huge on my right side. They’ve gone down in size 80%, but not much change in the past 2 mos. I’m open to more surgery, but prefer non surgical options. I meet with the surgeon who did the lipo next month for a follow up.

Answer: Liposuction results To make an assessment on the outcome of a procedure we need to see proper before and after pictures. If you don’t have before and after pictures and then ask your surgeon to forward the ones they took. They are part of your medical records and you have a right to them. It looks like the procedure was done fairly aggressively and with a reduction in fat it looks like you were seeing underlying structures like platysmal bands and submandibular glands. People who seek chin and neck Liposuction almost universally have an under developed mandible and compared to the Maxilla Manipulating soft treatments as an attempt to treat what is a skeletal issue often leads to only slight improvements. Personally I can’t think of any non-surgical options that are going to improve this. We really need to know what you look like before the procedure to have any idea of what was done. Try reposting with standard before and after pictures. Liposuction results are final at about three months after surgery. There’s no evidence the massage improves Liposuction results. The results are based on the patient’s individual candidacy combined with the skill and experience of the provider. In the end your surgeon is responsible for the outcome of the procedure and you are responsible for choosing that surgeon. Good luck with your upcoming visit. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
