I’m interested in getting HA filler for some verticle lip lines and volume loss in my lower face. I’d be getting filler around my mouth but not actually in my lips. I’m also thinking of getting Invisalign to fix some bite issues. I’d really like to get the filler before I start Invisalign as the volume loss is really bothering me. Is it okay to get filler in this area and then Invisalign a few weeks later? Is there a greater risk of the filler migrating if I get Invisalign after? Thank you!

Let me break it down clearly and realistically.

Why Invisalign doesn’t usually cause filler migration

Hyaluronic acid (HA) filler integrates into the tissue over the first 2–4 weeks. Once it’s settled, normal facial movements—including talking, chewing, and wearing aligners—do not push filler around.

Invisalign trays apply pressure to the teeth, not the soft tissues of the face. They don’t directly compress the areas where perioral or lower-face filler is typically placed.

Migration risk is more related to:

Injection depth and technique

Type of filler used

Amount placed

Muscle activity

—not orthodontic appliances.

Timing matters (and you’re thinking about it the right way)

If you plan to get filler before Invisalign:

Waiting 2–3 weeks before starting aligners is generally sufficient

By that point, the filler has stabilized and is far less susceptible to movement

This timing does not meaningfully increase migration risk

If Invisalign were started first, filler can still be done later—but some people prefer to address volume concerns earlier for confidence reasons, which is completely understandable.

A common recommendation is to place filler first and wait 2–4 weeks before starting Invisalign to allow the filler to settle.
