I apologize if this sounds ridiculous, but I am personally at an all time low here. I have a deviated septum, and I've been recommended to get septoplasty, but I've heard some girls say they got rhinoplasty done at the same time. Are there additional costs to getting the partial cosmetic surgery or is it covered in with the septoplasty? Thank you, and sorry for my lack of knowledge on this subject.
Answer: "Free rhinoplasty" with septoplasty The answer is no. Insurance will often cover work to help you breathe. This can include straightening the septum, reducing turbinate tissue and supporting collapsing areas of the nasal airway. Insurance will never cover any changes in the size, shape or appearance of your nose. This involves an aesthetic surgery with additional out of pocket cost. I hope this information is helpful for you.Stephen Weber MD, FACSDenver Facial Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Septoplasty and Rhinoplasty Septoplasty in an internal nasal operation, to reshape a crooked septum back to the midline. This procedure is indicated to improve nasal breathing and airflow. Rhinoplasty, however, is a cosmetic operation to reshape and improve the appearance of the external nose.

Answer: Rhinoplasty and septoplasty are 2 completely separate operations A septoplasty is performed for a deviated septum, but only once medical necessity has been documented. A septoplasty is billed to the patient's medical insurance. There is no medical necessity for a rhinoplasty, which is considered cosmetic. Patients must pay for the rhinoplasty component. A septoplasty and a rhinoplasty can be performed the same time under one anesthetic with one recovery period. Answer: Free Rhinplasty My approach to an isolated septoplasty is different than when performing rhinoplasty. Additional work needs to be discussed, consented, and on the operative record. The aesthetic portion is not covered by insurance. All the Best.

Answer: Cosmetic rhinoplasty during septoplasty It is not uncommon for patients to undergo a cosmetic rhinoplasty while having a septoplasty to correct a deviated septum for breathing issues. However, the cosmetic rhinoplasty portion of the procedure is usually a separate charge which is not covered by insurance. We will often submit the septoplasty portion of the procedure to insurance and have a separate flat fee charge which covers the additional surgeon, anesthesia, and facility fees for the cosmetic portion of the case. When done concurrently with a septoplasty, the out-of-pocket rhinoplasty cost can often be less than paying for a full cosmetic rhinoplasty alone. While this is our typical approach to handling concurrent septoplasty and rhinoplasty, not all surgeons may handle this the same way.I would also encourage you to get more information about the qualifications and experience of your surgeon. Although most otolaryngologists (ENTs) will perform a septoplasty, not all of them perform rhinoplasty. If you have any concerns about the appearance of your nose, you should seek out a board certified facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon with rhinoplasty expertise for a consultation and to discuss your options. Good luck!
