Good question. When looking at celebrity before and Afters who appear to have more “popping cheekbones” those comparisons are usually 3-5 years or more apart. The younger photos which don’t show a hollow under their cheekbones make them look more juvenile in their early 20’s or even teens. In their after photos you can see a hollow under their cheekbones which is not a result of filler but a result of time causing the “buccal fat” to shrink with age. Some surgeons are banking on the natural aging changes by hinting that these celebrities became famous because of the buccal fat reduction. I think that it can take time for an unknown actor/actress to become discovered, and the after photo is usually after they are already famous, so a conclusion can be made that they had buccal fat reduction in and became famous because of their popping cheek bones. Note that these famous people seem to age better than the rest of the population. Many actors are 5-8 years older than their apparent age. This allows 20-something actors to play teenagers (Beverly Hills 90210, 21 Jump Street). The buccal fat supports the face and helps to keep a youthful appearance. People in their early 20’s seem to want to fast forward to their future appearance at 25-28 years old which will happen anyway for free. When you are 28-32, most people may long for their 21-25 year old face with a bit more fullness. If you achieve a mature 28 year old appearance at 21 years old, how might you look when you are actually 28 years old, after 7 years have passed. Other than the “worth it” reviews of any procedure, also review the “not worth it” reviews to see through the eyes of people who underwent the same procedure but regretted it. The goal of plastic surgery or cosmetic procedures is to make a change for the better or improvement, but sometimes is backfires and makes a change for the worse. I think most patients are initially genuinely happy with buccal fat reduction except for a few exceptions (too much removed???) , while others may not regret it until 3-7 years later after they see the long term effect. Hope this response helped. Keep doing your research. RealSelf is a great source of information as well as reviews of both happy and unhappy patients. Good luck.
