i had an appendectomy in 2002 & after the surgery they said they left 2 small metal clips in my body. Will it be safe to get either Sculpsure or Vanquish on my stomach & flanks with those still in? Thanks!
Answer: Metal clips and energy treatments That is a very interesting question, thank you! As a rule, surgical clips should not pose a problem, but with any of the radiofrequency energy devices (Vanquish, Thermage, and others), there is a theoretical risk that the metal could overheat and cause a localized burn, so I would not recommend those. With SculpSure, the energy being used is laser light, which would not be concentrated in a metal clip, so that would be a safer bet.

Answer: SculpSure Thank you for your question. SculpSure dives deep below the top layer of skin and targets subcutaneous fat. The administrator can place the applicators away from the metal clips. I suggest that you move forward and consult with a board certified facial plastic surgeon. Best wishes,

Answer: Sculpture after an appendectomy Yes, it should be completely safe for you to have SculpScure following an appendectomy. The metal clips are buried deep in the tissue while the SculpSure laser treats the surface fat. Hope this helps.

Answer: Sculpsure after appendectomy Having sculpsure after an appendectomy is totally safe. The Sculpsure laser only affects the fat cell membranes that are superficial. The appendectomy clips are deep in the abdomen and will not be affected by this treatment.

Answer: SculpSure is safe The laser in SculpSure targets subcutaneous fat only and will have no effect on metal inside your body. You will be OK! Here is a lesson on the SculpSure laser:SculpSure uses a laser that targets fat cells. Laser stands for "light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation". In slightly simpler terms, a beam of light that is coherent and consists of electromagnetic rays of light of the same wavelength. The amplitude of a laser depends on it's source (ie ruby, CO2, diode). The light can be absorbed, reflected or dispersed. Different wavelengths of light are absorbed by different colors and objects. If an object absorbs the light energy it will heat up and could lead to disruption. The SculpSure laser is from a diode, similar to bar code readers, DVD readers and laser pointers. The wavelength is 1060 nanometers, which is the frequency that fat cells will absorb the energy. An applicator panel is placed on the skin with the laser confined to the applicator head. The laser is turned on and penetrates through the skin, without harming it, and targets the fat cells. The cells absorb the heat and are disrupted, our body then removes the cellular debris during a process referred to as inflammation. About 25% of the subcutaneous fat that is targeted is destroyed and removed over 6-12 weeks. Our bodies remove millions of dead cells daily on the skin and in the bowel. We are all born with a finite number of fat cells in our body. As our weight fluctuates the cells increase and decrease in size. If some fat cells are removed or destroyed, they are gone forever, they do not regenerate. SculpSure safely destroys those fat cells without any residual damage to the surrendering tissues. The result is permanent. The SculpSure session takes 25 minutes and should not be painful. There is no down time and no anesthesia or IV's are necessary. It can be performed as an outpatient and repeat sessions are sometimes necessary to achieve the desired results. It is unusual to have severe pain during a session, but it can happen.
