After a breast reduction will the bulge underneath my armpits eventually go away or soften up? 2 days post op. (photos)

Question

I recently had a breast reduction and I had my drains removed two days ago. The areas where the drains were it feels soft and swollen but it does not hurt; just uncomfortable when I hold my arms down. The bulge is covered with a gauge. That will stay on for at least 3 days.

Dear SWBell,I understand your concern and it is quite normal to be concerned about the outcome following a breast reduction. However, you are still in the very early stages of the healing process.Your will need to be patient at this moment and follow what your surgeon has instructed you to do post operatively.At the early stage of the healing process, the tissues are still swollen. Once the swelling subsides  you will be able to see the final result of your surgery.Daniel Barrett, MD

Hi and welcome to our forum!
Breast reduction involves separation of the breast tissue from surrounding and overlying tissues, removing appropriate segments to lessen size, usually maintaining the nipple-areolar complex on a flap of remaining breast tissue beneath the skin flaps. This surgical "insult" causes significant swelling of the breast and adjacent tissues, which will initially totally mask the result. The majority of the swelling will subside within 6-8 weeks, but won't totally subside for 6-12 months. 
It is far too early to assess the surgical result. 
Continue followup care with your surgeon and express your concerns at your next office visit.
