Do I have tuberous breasts? Can they be corrected without using breast implants? I'm 19 years old (Photo)

Hello and thank you for the question. I do believe you have elements of tuberous breasts, including constricted lower pole and herniation of breast tissue into areola. This can be corrected with breast augmentation in conjunction with scoring of lower pole for better expansion. Other option would be a simple areolar reduction  I would consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon for a complete evaluation. Best,

Based on your photos, you have tuberous breast deformity. This is evident in the constricted lower pole and the herniation of breast tissue into  the areola. 
It would be important to know what specifically bothers you the most about the appearance. If you are satisfied with the volume, then, to answer your question, yes, this can be corrected without implants. 
You and your board certified plastic surgeon can discuss the options for correction and the placement of the scars during an in-person consultation.

Tuberous breasts are not simply small or underdeveloped breasts. The appearance of the breast can range from mild to severe, and typical traits include: enlarged, puffy areola, rather wide spacing between the breasts, very little breast tissue, sagging, higher than normal inferior breast fold, and narrow base at the chest wall.

The type of surgery best for you will depend on the severity of your condition.

My preferred technique for tuberous breast correction involves a multistep procedure where the breast tissue is released in a radial pattern to prevent herniation into the areola and placement of a custom implant size is in the breast to allow appropriate expansion of the breast in the restricted dimensions. This can often be done in a single procedure but sometimes may require two surgeries.

When it comes to sizing, we have all of our patients find 3 photos of their desired breast size. We ask for naked breast photos because clothing can obscure the true size (push up bras). Next, we consult with patients and go over the photos and take detailed breast measurements during a physical exam. Next, we using a sizing algorithm to determine a range of implants that will work based on the exam and the measurements.

Lastly, during the operation, we use silicone sizers in the operating room to see how the size actually looks in the breast. We sit the patient up in the operating room, while asleep of course, and compare the sizer result with their desired look photos. If it is too small, we start the process over with a slightly larger implant. We don't stop until we get the perfect match.

Of all of my breast augmentation patients, every one of them has been happy with their size due to this detailed and meticulous process. You don't want to invest time and money into a result that is either too big or too small.

That said, it is best that you visit a board-certified plastic surgeon for an in person examination. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

hello thank you for your question and provided information as well.. based in your question and the picture you showed you dont have signs of tuberous breast, just asymmetry breast, with implants can correct the case.its recommended to get a consultation in personal with a plastic surgeon to check how many cc its much better for your results.

It is possible in some people to use a series of fat grafting operations to re-shape and volumise your breasts.The appearance of the nipple/areola can then be considered once your volume and shape have been corrected. This might require surgery that leaves a scar around the areola in the future.I hope this helps - good luck

Hi.  You do demonstrate features of a tuberous breast. If the main aspect that is bothersome is the areola diameter or protrusion, you may be able to improve this with a simple procedure that leaves a scar around the areola borders.  It will not address the breast tissue that is pushing from behind but will help flatten it some.  Have an in-person examination to be sure, and explore the benefits of an implant to fill the lower pole and release the native fold below the breast.  Best wishes, Dr. Doolabh

Well, you have periareolarbreast dehiscence which some call “tuberous breast”. Several talented and thoughtful plastic surgeons have published a way to deal with this problem. O makes a periarolar incision, undermines skin around it, then imbricates the breast, and tightens the areolae by placing deep dermal sutures stretching out the nipple and flattening it. It works nicely. So, talk to your board certified ,experienced,plastic surgeon to achieve your goals.

Thank you for posting your photos and for your question. While you do have some characteristics of tuberous breasts, you may be able to achieve a nice result without a breast implant. Traditionally, an implant is used to increase volume and assist with reshaping the breasts however, you may achieve a satisfactory level of improvement without the implant. It does appear that you have features of tuberous breast including tight/constricted lower poles of both breast and herniation of breast tissue into the areola. The correction depends on which elements bother you and what your ultimate goals are. If you are primarily concerned with the size of your areolas and satisfied with your breast volume then you could improve the appearance with an incision around your areolas which decreased their size. If you also desire more volume then implants would be your best option. If you are completely opposed to implants you could get some improvement with a series of fat grafting (assuming you have enough donor fat) but the results would be less dramatic and predictable. I would recommend seeing an experienced plastic surgeon for an in person consultation to discuss your goals and surgical options. Good luck.
