I want to get a breast aug but am concerned with how it will look after due to excess fat/skin I have above my sternum. In the pic, you can see 1 & 2 that my breasts are separate when standing. But while I’m sitting in 3, you can see I get a fold in the center of my chest that I am able to pinch in 4. I am concerned this could result in symmastia if I get implants. Would lipo fix this? Would it rresult in symmastia. Would a regular breast aug work just fine with no issues?

Answer: Liposuction of sternal area It may not be a bad idea to consider doing limitted liposuction in sternal area to sligtly widen and thin down starnal skin attachements and prevent symmastia after augmentation. This can be done in local anesthesia, a soft mold could be used to further shape the area of adherence. In that case, I would suggest delaying augmentation for 6 months or so. Hope this helps.

Answer: Good question. Thank you for your question and photos. A specific treatment recommendation can only be provided following an evaluation in person by a board certified plastic surgeon. That said, liposuction is likely to improve or correct the fullness you appear to have between your inframammary folds, and is unlikely to worsen or exaggerate any element of synmastia. Breast augmentation needs to be precise with properly selected implants. The larger and wider the implant the greater the risk of synmastia, and in my practice this is also one of the few indications for which I would consider textured rather than smooth implants. Do your research and select a board certified plastic surgeon whose aesthetics seem to align with your own, based on his or her Before and After gallery. Best of luck to you.
