I want to get a breast aug but am concerned with how it will look after due to excess fat/skin I have above my sternum. In the pic, you can see 1 & 2 that my breasts are separate when standing. But while I’m sitting in 3, you can see I get a fold in the center of my chest that I am able to pinch in 4. I am concerned this could result in symmastia if I get implants. Would lipo fix this? Would it rresult in symmastia. Would a regular breast aug work just fine with no issues?

Answer: Breast Aug Should be Fine, Skin Excision In general, a breast augmentation will not worsen this problem. Most augmentations are performed below the muscle and this will keep the implant from migrating too far towards the center of the chest wall. Unfortunately it appears that you have a significant amount of skin in that area which can only be excised as a general rule. However, scars reaching across the midline have a tendency to keloid therefore it may require excision in multiple attempts. An in person physical exam with a board certified plastic surgeon should be able to tell exactly how to proceed.

Answer: Liposuction of sternal area It may not be a bad idea to consider doing limitted liposuction in sternal area to sligtly widen and thin down starnal skin attachements and prevent symmastia after augmentation. This can be done in local anesthesia, a soft mold could be used to further shape the area of adherence. In that case, I would suggest delaying augmentation for 6 months or so. Hope this helps.
