Dark spot post mole excision 8/2022 - is this normal? (Photos)

Hi everyone- I had an atypical mole on the inside of my foot excised 8/2022. After the initial biopsy they had me come back for a deeper cut. All margins clear. However, the scar that was left behind almost looks like it’s a giant mole forming. Is this normal? The original mole was tiny but this scar is huge!

After a mole removal, it is normal to have some scarring in the area where the mole was excised. Depending on the size of the mole and the depth of the excision, the scar may appear larger or more prominent than the original mole. It is also possible for the scar to look like a raised bump or a dark spot.

It is important to have your scar evaluated by your doctor to ensure that it is healing properly and that there are no signs of infection or abnormal tissue growth. If you have any concerns about the appearance of the scar or if you notice any changes in the area, such as redness, swelling, or discharge, it is important to contact your doctor right away.

Mole removal begins with a comprehensive examination and consultation to determine the likelihood of a mole being worrisome. Excisional and incisional biopsies are reserved for suspicious moles. But it’s good news that most moles are not problematic and are only cosmetic, thus leading to the option of scarless or non-surgical mole removal with lasers and RF and plasma.
